# Junior Report Card (Skills-Based) - Implementation Guide

## Overview
The Junior Report Card is a **skills-based assessment system** completely separate from the academic exam progress module. It focuses on evaluating students' Affective, Psychomotor, and Cognitive skills rather than academic marks/grades.

## What Was Fixed

### 1. Fixed Errors in `reportCard_junior_PDF.php`
- **Line 84**: Fixed null array offset error for `$remarks_array[$studentID]` by adding `isset()` check
- **Lines 169, 171**: Fixed null array offset errors when `get_grade()` returns null
- **Line 173**: Added missing `getGrandClassAverage()` method to `Exam_progress_model`

### 2. Separated Skills Module from Academic Exam Module
Previously, the junior report card was incorrectly mixed with academic exam progress. Now it's properly separated:
- Academic reports → `Exam_progress` controller
- Skills reports → `Skills` controller (NEW)

## New Files Created

### 1. Controller Methods (Skills.php)
Added three new methods to handle junior report cards:

#### `junior_report_card()`
- **URL**: `skills/junior_report_card`
- **Purpose**: Display the selection interface for generating junior report cards
- **Access**: Requires `skills_junior_report` permission

#### `reportCardPrint()`
- **URL**: `skills/reportCardPrint` (AJAX)
- **Purpose**: Generate HTML preview of the report card
- **Method**: POST only

#### `reportCardPdf()`
- **URL**: `skills/reportCardPdf` (AJAX)
- **Purpose**: Generate PDF download of the report card
- **Method**: POST only

### 2. View Files

#### `application/views/skills/junior_report_card.php`
Selection interface where teachers can:
- Select academic year, exam, class, and section
- Choose students for report generation
- Set print date
- Select optional marksheet template
- Generate PDF reports

#### `application/views/skills/junior_report_card_pdf.php`
The actual PDF report layout containing:
- **Student Information** (header from template if provided)
- **Skills Assessment Section** with three categories:
  - Affective Skills (social/emotional)
  - Psychomotor Skills (physical/motor)
  - Cognitive Skills (thinking/learning)
- **Rating Scale Legend**
- **Teacher's Remarks Section**
- **Head Teacher's Remarks Section**
- **Footer** (from template if provided)

### 3. Model Method (Skills_model.php)

#### `getStudentRemarks($student_id, $exam_id, $session_id)`
- Retrieves teacher and head teacher remarks for a specific student
- Returns: `['teacher_remarks' => '...', 'head_teacher_remarks' => '...']`

## Key Features

### ✅ No Academic Data
The junior report card contains **ZERO** academic information:
- ❌ No marks/scores
- ❌ No grades (A, B, C, etc.)
- ❌ No GPA/percentages
- ❌ No subject-based remarks
- ❌ No class averages/positions

### ✅ Skills-Only Assessment
Only displays:
- ✅ Skills ratings (from skills assessment entries)
- ✅ Rating labels (e.g., "E" for Excellent)
- ✅ Rating descriptions
- ✅ Teacher's comments
- ✅ Head Teacher's comments

## How It Works

### 1. Skills Rating Entry
Teachers first enter skills ratings using:

```
This allows them to:
- Rate students on specific skill items
- Add teacher remarks
- Add head teacher remarks

### 2. Generate Junior Report Card
Once ratings are entered, generate reports from:
```
Skills → Junior Report Card
```

### Workflow:
1. Select academic year, exam, class, and section
2. System displays all students who have skills ratings
3. Select students to include in the report
4. Optionally choose a marksheet template for header/footer
5. Set print date
6. Click "Generate PDF"

## Database Structure

The junior report card reads from:
- `skills_students_ratings` - Student skill ratings and remarks
- `skills_items` - Skill items being assessed
- `skills_categories` - Category groupings (Affective/Psychomotor/Cognitive)
- `skills_ratings` - Rating scale definitions

## Teacher & Head Teacher Remarks

Remarks are stored in the `skills_students_ratings` table:
- `teacher_remarks` - Class teacher's comment
- `head_teacher_remarks` - Head teacher's comment

These are entered during the skills rating entry process and displayed in dedicated sections on the report card.

## Accessing the Module

### Required Permissions
You need to add the following permission to your system:
- Permission name: `skills_junior_report`
- Actions: `is_view`, `is_add` (for PDF generation)

### Menu Access
Add to your sidebar/navigation:

   - Fixed null array offset errors
   - Fixed undefined method error

## Important Notes

⚠️ **Complete Separation**: The junior report card is now completely independent of the academic exam progress module. This means:
- Different controller (`Skills` vs `Exam_progress`)
- Different views directory (`skills/` vs `exam_progress/`)
- Different data source (skills ratings vs academic marks)

⚠️ **Template Support**: The report card can optionally use marksheet templates for headers/footers, but the core content is always skills-based.

⚠️ **One Exam Only**: Unlike academic report cards that can combine multiple exams, the junior report card is for a single exam/assessment period.

## Next Steps

To fully integrate this module:

1. **Add Permissions**: Create the `skills_junior_report` permission in your permissions table
2. **Update Navigation**: Add menu link to access `skills/junior_report_card`
3. **Test**: Ensure skills ratings are entered before generating reports
4. **Customize Template**: Modify the PDF layout in `junior_report_card_pdf.php` if needed
